More Page Optimisation

May 28th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I’ve been looking into this page optimisation a bit further, and discovered, right under my nose, a great tool from Google, the page Optimiser. This allows you to try different variations of item on a page and compare the results. eg you want people to sign up for your newsletter, so you have a sign up form. By trying and testing a number of variations of the page, you might be able to increase the sign up rate. This has to be worth a go, and of course from Google its Free!.

Landing pages and other options … erm

May 19th, 2008 · 2 Comments

OK, I’ve been running a google campaign for a site and not really been getting the conversions. So what are my options.

  • Review the click stats and see what qty of click throughs we are getting
  • Review the ads themselves - try some varaitions of wording, or some completely off the wall variations. continuously review the ones that work best and try variations of those
  • set up (if you havent already got them) and review the goals and see where people are dropping off the buying process. This also allows you to compare goals with source, advert location etc etc - very powerful stuff.

I’ll let you know how I get on!

Good Advice

April 24th, 2008 · 3 Comments

Just came across this rather nice succinct summary of what SEO factores determine your search engine position. This came from Jill at High Rankings Advisor. - great site by the way… check it out:

  • title tags and keywords
  • the age of the website
  • the age of the page
  • the overall popularity of the website on the Internet as a whole
  • the overall popularity of the page with respect to other pages within the website
  • the authority and trust factor of the domain
  • the words being used within the visible content of the page
  • the words used in anchor text pointing to the page
  • the words used in alt attribute text pointing to the page, and
  • about 90 other, less important factors!

Lesson 1 - what are the SEO steps I need to take?

April 16th, 2008 · 3 Comments

If you want to get found by the search engines, then there is nothing more simple than good content.
However, it takes time to create it, and it may also take a while for the search engines to visit and index you, so here are a few key steps. These are relevant for you if you are building a new site, or running an SEO campaign on an existing one. Some steps may need the help of (your) a web designer, others will be acheivable by anyone with a little time.

Please remember that Search Engine Optimisation is not a once only task, its ongoing, and it also evolves, but some of these steps are simple to apply when you create a new website.

1. What are my keywords?

2. Make your site Search Engine Friendly

3. Measurement and analytics

4. Getting the word out

5. Review and refine

6. back to 1
